There are moments in life when it feels like there is no way out, it can feel unsettling, uncomfortable, overwhelming, frustrating, worrisome, terrifying even, and simply too much. In these moments we strive to provide a warm, welcoming, non-judgmental space where you feel supported, understood and reassured. Together we explore the challenges, discover your strengths and collaboratively find creative strategies to help you manage and navigate with a renewed sense of energy and hopefulness. You don’t have to do this alone. 

Art as Therapy provides Art Therapy, Drama Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy & talk psychotherapy for children, youth, their caregivers and adults of all ages online and in person. At Art as Therapy we use a client-centred, strength-based approach to help our clients discover their inner strengths and build the skills necessary to face life’s challenges and manage big emotions. We apply an anti-oppressive, cultural humility, attachment, somatic & trauma informed lens to our work.

At Art as Therapy, our vision is for every individual to recognize their inner power and potential. To be free of all limitations whether self-imposed, diagnosed or societal and feel fearless in facing and overcoming life challenges, circumstances and difficult emotions. The psychotherapists at Art as Therapy are committed in helping their clients imagine new possibilities for change, enhance existing skills, learn new ones, and implement different ways of engaging in their world.

 

Our mission

 

As a team we are committed to advancing the welfare of our clients, as well as maintaining objectivity, integrity, and confidentiality. We strive to uphold high standards of professional competence and service by following the ethical guidelines outlined by the Canadian Art Therapy Association, Ontario Art Therapy Association, the College of Registered Psychotherapists in Ontario, and other applicable regulating bodies. We are committed to walking towards reconciliation, reflecting continuously on our power, privilege and biases, and adding our voice to advocacy efforts to ensure a more equitable and anti-oppressive space beyond the therapy office. We are committed to challenging the institutions that we are members of, because change needs to start at home. We practice radical hospitality by offering a warm, friendly, confidential space for clients to explore their creativity and discover their inner power.

 

OUR COMMITMENT

 

The team at Art as Therapy make steadfast commitment to learning, unlearning and journeying on the path towards Truth and Reconciliation. We strive to embed anti-oppressive practices into our work with a lens of cultural humility. This means we practice therapy with love, kindness, and empathy, actively ensuring that no one feels excluded or hurt in any way. We always take responsibility if we fall short of this commitment. We practice on the following Indigenous Lands and try to be conscious of our responsibility towards the land and its peoples.

Art as Therapy, Orangeville

Art as Therapy, Orangeville is located on the treaty lands and territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat and Haudenosaunee people.

Art as Therapy, Brampton

Art as Therapy, Brampton acknowledges the territory of the Anishinabek, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee, and Ojibway/Chippewa peoples; the land that is home to the Métis; and most recently, the territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation who are direct descendants of the Mississaugas of the Credit.

Art as Therapy, Milton

Art as Therapy, Milton is located on the treaty and title lands of the Anishinaabek Ojibwe Michizaagiig Nation, now known as the Mississaugas of the Credit.

We also acknowledge the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people who live on these lands today. We honor and express gratitude to Indigenous communities for their stewardship of the land and for sharing their wisdom about its richness, spirit, and elements with us.
